Heading up the scoria path on Rangitoto Island
Writing from another level 4 lockdown, I’m glad I made the most of autumn. From a delayed, but still awesome Splore, to beach walks and footy in the sun, it was a great few months. The highlight might have to be Easter in the Marlborough Sounds at Kate’s family bach, in a spot that could not be beaten.
So pleased to spend some time with Nat when she visited – and with this epic view!
Early morning autumn sunrise
Crowded House on stage at Vector Arena belting out the classics
Scored free tickets to the Polo thanks to Joe’s work – quite fun!
Had so much fun natural wine tasting with Laura
Splore was postponed a month from late February – thanks Covid! We were a bit worried it wouldn’t be as good, but we still swam, saw some awesome acts, and enjoyed the spectacle. And wore our colourful and crazy outfits, of course!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Splore is NZ’s answer to Glastonbury – and I love it!
I love how Splore incorporates art all over the festival – this tree looks amazing every year
The theme this year was Mother – so we went with two types of Queen Bees and some pre-mummy Pharaohs!
Shapeshifter headlining Splore – such a dream come true!
When your outfit perfectly matches Splore <3
And then it was off to my friend Kate’s family bach in the Marlborough Sounds! It’s low tech, no frills, and who needs frills when you have this stunning view from your balcony? We swam, kayaked, played rounds of everything from Catan to Monopoly Deal, read a bunch and hiked to Mount Kahikatea for some stunning views. There were fish, seals and dolphins – absolutely magic!
Some very determined fisher-people – and it paid off!
Seriously, those autumn sunsets were next level
Very happy to have made it up one of the steepest hikes I’ve done in a long while!
Had to fit in a farm visit with these characters
Making the most of the last of the long evenings
A landmark concert – Six60 at Eden Park. It was a huge fight to get concerts happening at this central city sports venue – and the huge crowd seemed to appreciate every second!
An early morning run through Westhaven Marina
I love football spectating – especially in this weather! Spot the Sky Tower…
Making the most of being close to the sea for these Rangitoto sunrises
Loved being inside Van Gogh’s Starry Night at the interactive exhibition
Ran the Whitianga Half-Marathon with some truly awesome supporters 🙂
I never get sick of this view on my commute!
And that was autumn! I still haven’t quite got my blogging mojo fully back, but I did write a couple of posts:
- Eight Years of Two Feet, One World: yep that’s right! It was so fun to look back at my favourite adventures over the years.
- Street Art and Eats in Christchurch: Christchurch’s central city has such an energy now – along with lots of delicious eats and cool street art!
And that’s it from me for this season… we’ve had a series of disappointments in trying to get to Australia to see Joe’s family, so planning only local adventures for now. But hey, Aotearoa NZ is a pretty good place to have those in!
How’re you going? My northern hemisphere friends, what will your autumn look like?
