It’s official – I have well and truly got the Christmas spirit. Between watching Love Actually, munching on festive afternoon teas and visiting Winter Wonderland, I was already feeling well in the mood. But what has really pushed me into full on Christmas mode was an evening wandering round the beautiful lights display at Kew Gardens.
Kew Gardens are stunning enough during the day, as I discovered this summer, but for Christmas they are lit up with beautiful light art, shimmers, fountains and music over a one-mile track around the grounds.
Palm House
There were all the usual festive goodies to keep your belly warm and happy, including mince pies, mulled wine and candy canes – but my favourite by far were the giant fruit marshmallows, to be roasted over the fire pits!
Yum!

It’s amazing how different the lights made the trees look – we kept commenting how even an ordinary tree could look especially gorgeous when uplight or with Christmas presents festooning its branches!
Mistletoe time!
These were my favourites as they reminded me of a pohutukawa – the New Zealand Christmas Tree!
We spent a couple of hours wandering around the gardens – there was just so much to see. There were also carousels to be ridden… you’re never too old for a merry go round!
If you’re in London definitely head out to Kew Gardens for your own dose of Christmas spirit! The light trail is open until 3 January 2015. For more information on the Christmas Trail, click here.
